Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology

Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (ACR) is the study and application of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems used in residential, commercial, and industrial environments. The Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology Program at Wallace Community College Selma equips students with the practical and theoretical knowledge necessary to install, maintain, and repair HVACR systems. Students receive hands-on training in electrical systems, piping, refrigeration, and HVACR diagnostics, utilizing tools and techniques that align with industry standards. The program also includes workplace skills and apprenticeship opportunities to prepare students for successful careers in the real world.

Through instruction and lab-based experiences, students are trained in system operations, component functions, safety practices, and the latest technologies used in climate control and refrigeration. Graduates of the program are prepared for entry-level employment in HVACR service, repair, and installation, and are well-positioned for advancement with additional certifications or licensure.

Awards Offered: Certificate in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology
Career Outlook: Employment of HVACR mechanics and installers is projected to grow 5 percent from 2020 to 2030, about as fast as the average for all occupations. The growing emphasis on energy efficiency and climate control systems is driving demand for qualified HVACR technicians.
